There are several communities of interest for campus staff involved in communication and marketing areas. They are places to share ideas, timely information and best practices with colleagues who have similar responsibilities in their schools, colleges, departments and programs.
Campus Communicators
Campus Communicators is an informal group of UW–Madison professionals who convey information to students, alumni, faculty/staff, media and other audiences. It meets periodically during the school year. An email discussion list exists for sharing announcements about upcoming meetings and to facilitate discussion among members of the group. Join or unsubscribe from the Campus Communicators list.
AV Club
The UW AV Club is the unofficial collaborative group for UW–Madison’s video and multimedia community. It passes along tech tips, shares information and answers questions. From time to time, AV Club has even shared personnel and gear. UW–Madison and UW System faculty, staff and students employed by campus units are welcome as members. Go to the UW AV Club Facebook page to request to be added.
Research Communicators
Research Communicators brings together the people at UW–Madison who describe with words, pictures and video the work done by scientists on campus. Quarterly meetings address common challenges and opportunities, introduce new science communicators to their campus colleagues and connect journalists with science stories. Announcements and discussions appear on an email list. To join the Research Communicators list, please contact Chris Barncard of University Communications.
#UWSocial
#UWSocial is a group of communicators from schools, colleges and departments across campus dedicated to sharing great social media content and resources for the UW–Madison community and beyond. Request to join the Facebook group or the email list.
Executive Communicators
This is a group of experienced communicators from across campus whose roles include development of high-level institutional messages for university leaders. Members have expertise in speechwriting, blog writing, video scripting, creating effective visuals, and supporting top executives. The community of practice meets quarterly to share knowledge, challenges, ideas, and best practices, and to identify ways to align messaging and leverage one another’s work to deepen our ability to communicate effectively with multiple constituencies. Contact Amanda Todd for additional information.
Campus Designers
Campus Designers is a peer forum for campus designers to compare notes and share ideas. All UW–Madison employees with hands-on graphic design responsibilities of any type are invited to participate in this informal community of practice, established in 2007. The group meets periodically during the school year.
A Campus Designers email discussion list exists for sharing announcements about upcoming meetings and to facilitate discussion among members of the group. To sign up for the email list or to find out more, contact Danielle Lawry or Kelly O’Loughlin of University Marketing.
