Through the development of internal and external communications, our office promotes the university’s remarkable work, leads the way with key messages, proactively addresses controversy and strengthens relationships with key stakeholders. We create, curate and publish content across the university’s hallmark publications and channels, work with media on stories, and coordinate communication projects in service to the university mission and vision.

Our Team
University Communications is led by assistant vice chancellor John Lucas. The unit is organized under multiple focus areas:
News and Media Relations
Overseen by director Kelly Tyrrell, News and Media Relations is the university news office for internal and external communication, handles all media relations and covers UW–Madison’s expansive research landscape.
Stakeholder Communications
Stakeholder communications staff provide speechwriting and strategic messaging support for campus leaders, manage public safety communications and co-edit the alumni magazine, On Wisconsin.
Strategic Partnerships Marketing and Communications
The Strategic Partnerships Marketing and Communications team works to support the goals of UW’s Strategic Partnerships and Industry Engagement units, which include the Office of Business Engagement, Tribal Relations, State Relations, Federal Relations and Community Relations. The team is led by director Rodee Schneider.

Visuals staff provide video and photo services and support for UW–Madison and are led by director of photography Jeff Miller and video executive producer Peter Kleppin.
